Terms of Use

Last updated: 19 September 2026 · Applies to the Tax-M8 mobile app and website

This is a plain-English draft prepared as a starting point. It has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. Please have it reviewed by an Australian legal professional before you publish or rely on it.

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Tax-M8 mobile app and website (the "Service"), provided by Tax-M8 ("we", "us" or "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Not tax or financial advice

This is the most important part. Tax-M8 is an educational and organisational tool. It helps you record information and produces general estimates and summaries. Tax-M8 does not provide tax, accounting, legal or financial advice, does not lodge tax returns, and is not a substitute for a registered tax agent or qualified accountant. Estimates (such as safe-to-spend or tax set-aside figures) are general in nature, may be inaccurate, and must not be relied on for decisions about your tax. Always confirm your position with a registered professional and the ATO.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. The Service is designed primarily for users in Australia.

3. Your account

You're responsible for keeping your login details secure and for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access. Use logout on shared devices — account access is separate from your phone's lock screen.

4. Subscriptions, trials and billing

  • Tax-M8 offers a free tier and a paid Tax-M8+ subscription, with a trial where available.
  • Subscriptions are sold and billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play and are managed in your Apple ID or Google account.
  • Trials and subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel anytime in your store account.
  • Prices and inclusions may change; we'll give reasonable notice of material changes.
  • Refunds are handled under the applicable Apple/Google store policies and your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Service, including: breaking the law; uploading content you don't have rights to; attempting to access other users' data; reverse-engineering, disrupting or overloading the Service; or using it to provide regulated tax or financial advice to others.

6. Your content and data

You own the information and files you add to Tax-M8. You grant us a limited licence to store and process that content solely to provide the Service to you (including secure storage and AI-assisted features). You're responsible for the accuracy of what you enter. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your information.

7. Creator program

If you participate in the Tax-M8 creator/affiliate program, additional program terms apply. In summary: payouts are earned on qualifying signups and on Tax-M8+ conversions that occur within the stated window; you must comply with disclosure rules (e.g. #ad / #gifted) under the Australian Consumer Law and applicable advertising standards; and we may vary, suspend or end the program, or withhold payment for fraudulent or policy-breaching activity. Creator earnings may be assessable income — that's between you and your accountant.

8. Availability

We aim to keep the Service running well but don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may update, suspend or discontinue features. Tax-M8 may be in beta, meaning some features are still being prepared.

9. Australian Consumer Law

Our Service comes with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies those rights. Where permitted, our liability for failing to meet a consumer guarantee is limited to resupplying the Service or paying the cost of resupply.

10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law and subject to the ACL, the Service is provided "as is", and we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for decisions you make based on estimates, summaries or information produced by the Service. You remain responsible for your own tax obligations.

11. Termination

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms or use the Service unlawfully.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll post the updated version here and change the "Last updated" date. Continued use after changes means you accept them.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia, and you submit to the courts of that jurisdiction.

14. Contact

Reminder: Tax-M8 provides educational guidance and organisational tools only. It does not provide tax or financial advice and does not lodge tax returns.
